DAVID MURPHY DATE OF BIRTH: 11/06/1989 Born in Reading, David is the youngest member of his family who moved into Cambridgeshire in 2003. EQUIPMENT: Westfield Funk bass guitar. Carlsbro Cobra 90 combo (really kicks ass) Customised Fender Stratocaster guitar Columbus Jazz bass guitar Encore acoustic guitar Corgy 5 string banjo Cruiser 15w bass amp Columbus BGF90 bass amp Squire 10w guitar amp Various leads, straps etc.
David only started taking serious lessons in April 2005 having already joined the band, but he had practiced on his own for several years before that - pinching his Dads 25 year old fretless bass to do it! David has the responsibility for the heavy bass sound that sums up what Numlocq are about. His main influences come from Mark King (Level 42) and Les Claypool of Primus. He loves the music of Yngwie Malmsteen and his live performances as Yngwie is a real showman. He is also heavily into Ozzy and Sabbath and somewhat fanatical about it. His taste in music covers a wide range and he has been known to listen ot the odd classical track occasionally.
David perhaps lacks some confidence at times in his own ability and is the quieter member of the band (but they're usually the ones to watch for - girls you have been warned!). There are times when David clashes with Brett but usually the outcome is an awesome sound for the band. |
